La Clairière – The Clearing
Cami Cal Pastou

The road to our house The Clearing passes a ‘ Mas’ called Cal Pastou which is Catalan and means At the Sheperd`s, as it was formerly a sheep and goat farm.
The house is situated 280m high at the foot of the Pyrenees in a forest bordering the little town of Amélie-les -Bains. The house is only 400m away from the town centre and 7km from the district`s principal town, Ceret.
The Mediterranean Sea can be reached after 35km. We are to the south- west of the university town of Perpignan.

Amélie-les Bains is situated in the valley of river Tech where the raging creek Mondony emerges from its gorge. To the south the Pyrenees rise up to 1400m, quite opposite the foothills of the majestic Canigou(2700m) which in winter is visible from faraway because of its snow-covered peaks.
The small town has been a spa since the times of the Romans because it has hot sulphur sources.
The valley of river Tech widens at Ceret and you can have a wide view across the plain of Perpignan right to the Mediterranean Sea. You can reach the wide beach of Argèles-sur-Mer on a bike lane starting from Amélie along river Tech. The rocky coast of Côte Vermeille begins south of it. Here you find the fishing villages of Collioure, Port Vendres and Banyuls-sur-Mer which are very different from each other, but all of them rather unspoilt.
Amelie-Tech
16/11/Palalda-Blick-Clairiere Our plot of land is terraced up the mountain and borders to the hiking path leading to Montalba, which lies 450m high. From here it is not far away to the Spanish border.
There are hiking paths of varying difficulty in our surrounding area.
